On the occasion of Art Basel’s inaugural edition in Qatar, BMW is delighted to invite you to the opening reception of the BMW Lounge.
As part of the BMW Art Car World Tour, BMW will present David Hockney’s BMW Art Car (1995) at Art Basel Qatar, exhibited at the iconic Sahat Wadi Msheireb Plaza. The work reimagines the car as an X-ray-like vision, revealing its interior, occupants and movement, and reflecting Hockney’s fascination with colour, perspective and the passage of time. Presented in Qatar, it highlights a dialogue between contemporary art, Hockney’s visual language and five decades of BMW Art Car history.
The opening reception in the BMW Lounge at the M7 building will feature opening remarks by artist Christoph Niemann, Tom Eccles (Executive Director, Centre for Curatorial Studies, Bard College), and Prof. Dr. Thomas Girst (Global Head of Cultural Engagement, BMW Group), reflecting on the enduring dialogue between contemporary art, automotive innovation and the cultural legacy of David Hockney and the BMW Art Car Collection.
